Fight Preview

Terence Crawford has been ordered by the WBO to defend his welterweight title against third-ranked Alexis Rocha. The fight is reportedly set to take place in early June, but the date could be pushed back if an agreement between the parties isn’t reached quickly.

Crawford will be the clear favorite for the title showdown, with the American being the dominant force in the classification since winning the welterweight gold in August 2017. He has dispatched of every opponent put in front of him with ease, which is highlighted by the fact that each of his previous ten bouts has been won via stoppage.

This will be the biggest opportunity of Rocha’s career, as the southpaw challenges for a world title for the first time. The 25-year-old currently boasts a 22-1 professional record, with 14 of his victories coming by knockout. He is yet to be stopped in his professional career, with his only loss coming by decision.

This will be a massive step up in opposition for Rocha, with his last win being scored by KO against George Ashie in January 2023. But, as the third-ranked boxer in the WBO rankings, he could ask questions of Crawford.

Prediction

This looks set to be one of Crawford’s most straightforward title defenses in recent years. We would be amazed to see the fight go the distance, and the safe play would be on the American winning by KO/TKO.
