Fight Preview

George Kambosos’ route back to the top of the lightweight division resumes at the end of July, as the Australian looks to regain the title that he previously held. The 30-year-old is currently ranked as the world’s best lightweight by TBRB and The Ring, but he will be looking to get back on track after dropping the title by unanimous decision against Devin Haney in June 2022.

The Australian wasn’t able to regain the title in the rematch, as he was beaten by Haney at the end of October. However, those remain his only two career defeats. Kambosos made international headlines back in November 2021, as he shocked the world to win the WBA, IBF, WBO and The Ring Lightweight titles following a split decision win over Teofimo Lopez. However, recent defeats mean that there are no questions hanging over him.

Maxi Hughes comes into this bout as the more experienced fighter of the two involved, but the Brit will be looking for a career-best victory in the United States at the end of July. He comes into this bout in excellent recent form, as he has held the IBO lightweight gold since beating Jovanni Straffon by unanimous decision in September 2021.

Hughes has since successfully defended the title on two occasions, with his standout win coming late last year, as he scored a majority decision victory over Kid Galahad. Hughes has won 26 of his 33 professional bouts, with 21 of his wins coming by decision and just five coming by knockout.

George Kambosos vs Maxi Hughes Prediction

This promises to be a huge night of boxing in the United States at the end of July, and both fighters will be confident of getting their arm raised. However, we are fully in the corner of Kambosos, who looks primed to get back on track after losing his perfect record last year.
