Event Preview
The 2024 season gets underway in Formula 1 on Saturday, March 2, as the best drivers in the world will be in action at the Bahrain Grand Prix. This race has been held annually on the F1 schedule since 2004, with the Bahrain International Circuit seeing drivers complete a total distance of 308.238 km.
All eyes will be on Red Bull, as the team won all but one of the races in the 2023 season. Max Verstappen will be chasing a fourth straight Drivers’ Championship, and despite a radical new-look to the car, it looked extremely quick during testing at the Bahrain International Circuit. There will be pressure on Sergio Perez this term, as the Mexican’s current deal expires at the end of the season.

Silly season has already started in F1, with Lewis Hamilton’s monumental switch to Ferrari in 2025 having already been announced. However, there is hope when it comes to Mercedes’ chances this season, as they have made radical changes to their car concept, with sidepods having been abandoned. Ferrari also look in the hunt, and could start the season on a bright note if reliability issues aren’t an issue.
However, the biggest threat in the opening race could come from McLaren, with the team looking like the second-fastest on the grid at the end of last season. Oscar Piastri landed a race win in a Sprint, but all eyes will be on what Lando Norris can achieve this season in a competitive car after signing a new bumper deal with the team.
Bahrain Grand Prix Prediction
Verstappen is very short in the betting for the opening race of the season, but a chance could be taken on Norris ending his long wait for a Grand Prix win. McLaren have been keeping their cards very close to their chest in testing, and there is a sense that they will be more competitive than most.
