Event Preview

Thrilling Formula 1 action continues in October, as the Qatar Grand Prix is staged on October 8. The Constructors’ Championship has already been wrapped up by Red Bull, but the top prize in the Drivers’ Championship could be handed out at the Losail Circuit. Max Verstappen requires just six points to secure the championship, and that could be achieved in the Sprint on Saturday afternoon,

The Dutchman bounced back after a disappointing outing at the Singapore Grand Prix, as he finished nearly 20 seconds clear of Lando Norris in the Japanese Grand Prix. That victory was his 14th victory of the season, and extended his advantage over teammate Sergio Perez.

The Japanese Grand Prix was a strong weekend for McLaren, as the team celebrated a double podium, with Lando Norris taking second and Oscar Piastri finishing in third. At present, they look like the team that is closest to the Red Bull pace.

Ferrari wasn’t able to back up their win in Singapore in the previous round, as Charles Leclerc was their best finisher in fourth. However, the Constructor will face a fight for second in the standings, as Mercedes have looked incredibly consistent throughout the season.

Lewis Hamilton once again showed better pace than his teammate, as he finished fifth after managing to hold off a late challenge from Carlos Sainz in Japan. Hamilton will have fond memories of the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix, as he finished over 25 seconds ahead of Verstappen to land victory.

Qatar Grand Prix Prediction

The Qatar Grand Prix will be all about crowning the 2023 champion. Verstappen looked back to his best in Japan, and it could be hard to overlook the reigning world champion. Meanwhile, we could see Hamilton and Norris finishing on the podium.
