Event Preview

The competitive action in Formula 1 continues at the start of April, as the Japanese Grand Prix is set for the first Sunday of the month. This race has been staged since 1966, and it has been officially staged on the schedule annually since 1987. The field will complete a total of 53 laps to make up the 307.471 km race distance.

It has been a dominant start to the season for McLaren, with the British team winning each of the opening two races of the season. Lando Norris continues to lead the way in the Drivers’ Championship standings following a second last weekend in the Chinese Grand Prix behind Oscar Piastri.

George Russell enjoyed another fine outing for Mercedes, taking a second straight podium in China. The British driver finished a place ahead of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman could yet have a new teammate for the Japanese Grand Prix, as rumors are heating up that Liam Lawson could be replaced by Yuki Tsunoda.

Lewis Hamilton tasted victory for the first time in a Mercedes when winning the Sprint Race, but his weekend got progressively worse after being disqualified alongside teammate Charles Leclerc in the Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly was also DSQ after weighing in below the required weight.

Japanese Grand Prix Picks

McLaren has been the dominant force in F1 so far this season, and it is hard to overlook the chances of the team once again in Japan. However, the narrow preference is for the in-form Piastri to put down a championship marker for the season ahead.
