Event Preview

The Genesis Open is the latest round of action on the PGA Tour, as the event takes place in San Diego this year after being relocated from Rivera Country Club due to the fires that engulfed Los Angeles. This event will see players compete over 7,802 yards, with the par 72 event being worth a staggering $20 million.

It is the final event on the West Coast Swing before the action moves to Florida. Lanny Wadkins holds the tournament records at the Genesis Open after finishing with an aggregate score of 264 and finishing 20-under when claiming victory in 1985.

Tiger Woods withdrew from the competition on Monday, but that hasn’t had a huge impact on the betting. Scottie Scheffler has been a red-hot favorite for the event, despite finishing in a tie for 25th on his comeback effort on the PGA Tour. But, that appearance likely sets him up for a renewed effort this weekend.

Rory McIlroy brings excellent recent form to the table after winning the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and he looks a solid contender to continue that excellent form ahead of the start of the first major of the season.

Hideki Matsuyama was an excellent winner of the event 12 months ago, as he ended his two-year drought with a three-shot success. Will Zalatoris and Luke List finished as the runners-up, but Patrick Cantlay had set the pace for much of the weekend.

Genesis Open Picks

Collin Morikawa could be the interesting play at the prices available this week. The American finished in second at The Sentry on his return, before shooting a respectable aggregate total of 277 at Pebble Beach at the start of the month.
