Event Preview

The PGA Tour action continues in Michigan this weekend, as the Rocket Mortgage Classic is staged at Detroit Golf Club. A total distance of 7,370 yards will be covered at the event, with the event being a par 72. It has been included on the PGA Tour calendar since 2019, and offers a final opportunity for players to earn a spot in the final major of the season.

Tony Finau landed victory in the event 12 months ago, and he achieved that feat by setting a record aggregate and par score. He finished 26-under, and shot a 262. That was his first victory at the event, as he finished five shots clear of Patrick Cantlay, Taylor Pendrith, and Cameron Young.

Finau could be challenging to oppose this weekend, as he has missed the cut on just two occasions this season. However, he could only finish back in a tie for 45th at the Travelers Championship last weekend after making a below-average final round. Rickie Fowler would be a popular winner this weekend, and has made the cut in 17 of his 19 appearances. He has also finished in the top ten on seven occasions, including at the recent U.S. Open.

Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa are two players looking to play their way back into form ahead of The Open. The latter has missed the cut on five occasions in 19 attempts this season, and has finished in the top ten on just four occasions. Morikawa was unable to back up his strong showing at the U.S. Open last weekend after he missed the cut at the Travelers Championship.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Prediction

Rickie Fowler looks like an interesting contender this weekend, as he has been in excellent form over recent weeks. Meanwhile, Carson Young could be a player at a price that could finish well after finishing in a tie for 15th at the Travelers Championship last weekend.
