It will be a fascinating battle at the top of the leaderboard at Royal Liverpool this weekend, and there are no shortage of leading contenders that promise to be in the mix. The top 5 market is one that I will be looking to play very safe this weekend, meaning that the top two in the betting appear to be the standout contenders.
Rory McIlroy comes into the event in excellent form after winning the Scottish Open, while Scottie Scheffler also holds an excellent record in majors and was in the mix for a long time in the Scottish event last weekend. It appears a solid chance that both stars will finish in the top five this weekend.

Shane Lowry | |

The top ten Open betting market could be one of the most competitive for the event this weekend. I believe Shane Lowry is massively overpriced at the current prices. The former Open champion has an excellent record around links courses, which includes a victory at the major and a top ten finish on his debut appearance.
Jordan Spieth also holds a solid chance for the same reasons, and he can be forgiven for a below par showing at the Scottish Open last weekend. Other selections I like in this market include Rickie Fowler and Cameron Smith.

The top 20 betting market will be one where I will look to include some bigger price selections, and form over links courses is taken into consideration. Corey Conners could easily be a player fighting for the lead this weekend, and +200 for him to finish in the top 20 looks to be one of the most solid plays at The Open.
Justin Rose also has an excellent record in majors this season and should be competing for a top 20 finish. Meanwhile, Min Woo Lee, Matthew Jordan, and Padraig Harrington are others that we will be playing.
