Event Preview
The third golf major of the season takes us to California this weekend, as the Los Angeles Country Club hosts the US Open for the first time. This weekendโs event will be played across 7,530 yards, with a huge purse of $17.5 million up for grabs. It should be a thrilling event, with a number of previous champions involved.
Rory McIlroy holds the aggregate and par records, both of which were set in 2011. However, the Northern Irishman dropped out of contention for the second event running in the final round of the Canadian Open last time out. But, there would be few more popular winners of the US Open this year, as McIlroy bids to win a first major since 2014.

Brooks Koepka was the dominant winner of the PGA Championship on his previous appearance, becoming the first active LIV golfer to win a major championship. The American has won the US Open on two previous occasions, and a third success would see him move up to second in the list for most tournament victories.
Jon Rahm is an incredibly challenging player to overlook this weekend, as he excels in events played in California. He won the 2021 US Open at Torrey Pines, and has won twice in the Golden State already this calendar year. Scottie Scheffler heads the betting, but last yearโs Masters winner needs to rediscover his composure on the greens.
US Open Prediction
The fact that six of the previous seven winners of the US Open have been first-time major winners is difficult to overlook. The first of three plays this weekend comes in the form of the consistent Viktor Hovland, who was well in contention for a long time at the PGA Championship. Tyrrell Hatton has also been incredibly consistent this season, and looks like a player that is more than capable of getting involved after losing in a playoff at the Canadian Open last weekend.
Finally, we will be rooting for Patrick Cantlay this weekend. The Long Beach local has finished in the top three on just one occasion in 25 attempts, but the world number four is incredibly consistent, having finished in the top ten on five occasions since the start of the year. A fairytale first maiden victory could be on the cards.
