Race Preview
The standout race at Santa Anita this weekend comes in the form of the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Last year, we were treated to one of the all-time performances from Flightline, but there is no clear superstar in the field in 2023. The race has cut up somewhat over the last seven days, with Kentucky Derby winner Mage, Preakness and Belmont hero Arcangelo, and the talented Geaux Rocket Ride all scratching.
Arabian Knight has always looked a very useful sort for Bob Baffert. The trainer has won the Classic on four occasions since 2013, with all his victors being three. This runner was excellent over the Classic distance on his previous start, beating Geaux Rocket Ride by a neck in the G1 Pacific Classic. That form could make him the one to beat.

There will be strong Japanese interest in the race this year, with Ushba Tesoro looking like a serious danger. The runner boasts the best RPR in this field, and the six-year-old has won on each of his previous three starts this year. However, no six-year-old has ever won the Classic since 1984.
White Abarrio could be among the most popular winners, and a repeat performance of his six-length demolition of Zandon in the G1 Whitney would put him bang there this weekend. Saudi Crown could be the other rival of note for trainer Brad Cox after impressing when landing the G1 Pennsylvania Derby in September. His early pace could be a deciding factor at Santa Anita.
Breeders’ Cup Classic Prediction
Baffert’s record with three-year-old runners makes Arabian Knight a standout selection this weekend. However, White Abarrio looked better than ever when landing the Whitney, and he could take full advantage of going under the radar by scoring a famous win for connections.
