Race Preview
The Fountain of Youth Stakes has been an important prep for the Kentucky Derby throughout history, and that promises to be no different in 2025. The Grade Two is run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles, and a purse of $400,000 is available to connections.
Burnham Square is an excellent contender this weekend for the Ian Wilkes yard. The three-year-old has won on each of his previous two starts, with both wins being recorded at Gulfstream Park. The latest of those was a very notable success over course and distance when landing the G3 Holy Bull Stakes.

Sovereignty represents the William Mott yard on Saturday. Despite winning the G3 Street Sense over a mile and sixteenth on his latest start, he posted a lower speed figure than he did when finishing second over a mile. Clearly a positive that he has winning experience over the distance, but he will still need to find more.
Todd Pletcher sends the inexperienced River Thames to Gulfstream Park this weekend. The three-year-old has won on both of his career starts to this point, including when scoring over a mile at Gulfstream at the start of February. Could be absolutely anything, and connections will learn more this weekend.
Fountain Of Youth Stakes Picks
I was incredibly taken by Burnham Square’s win in the G3 Holy Bull, and I believe that he is already a major Kentucky Derby contender. He can enhance his credentials this weekend, and I expect the Wilkes runner to prove to be too strong for this field.
