Event Preview
The world’s most famous race will be staged at Aintree on April 5, 2025, as a field of more than 30 runners will contest over four miles in the Grand National. I Am Maximus will be looking to emulate Tiger Roll and become only the second back-to-back winner of the race since Red Rum.
Intense Raffles will be a standout contender for trainer Thomas Gibney. The seven-year-old was an impressive winner of the Irish Grand National last year, which has been a prominent prep race for the Grand National throughout recent history. I Am Maximus won the race in 2023, before landing the Aintree showpiece 12 months later.

Iroko has been ear-marked the National throughout the season, and has been performing competitively without worrying his handicap mark. However, it would be a concern that the Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerrioro-trained runner was a faller at Ascot in December.
Stumptown is one of a number of interesting runners from the Gavin Cromwell yard. He was excellent at the Cheltenham Festival last month, winning the Cross Country Chase by a commanding seven-length margin. That race has been a productive prep for the National in recent seasons.
Kandoo Kid looks like a solid British chance in the race this year for trainer Paul Nicholls. The nine-year-old has won twice from nine starts over fences, and was excellent over three miles and two when beating Broadway Boy by over a length at Newbury in November.
Grand National Picks
Gavin Cromwell-trained Perceval Legallois could be an interesting chance in the National this year. The eight-year-old has an excellent record in big field handicaps, winning over three miles at the Dublin Racing Festival in February. At the prices, he could be very well handicapped for a trainer with an excellent record in the UK.
