Race Preview
The Forego Stakes kicks off a huge night of Grade 1 action at Saratoga on Saturday. This race covers a distance of seven furlongs, with the action taking place on the dirt. Cody’s Wish was the memorable winner of this race 12 months ago, before the four-year-old went on to land success at the Breeders’ Cup.
The top two in the betting are difficult to separate this weekend, and both hold extremely solid claims. Elite Power has looked largely progressive throughout this season, and he took his form to the next level at Saratoga in July by landing the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt with a speed rating of 112.

Gunite appears to be the big danger to the favorite once again. The Steven Asmussen runner was beaten by his re-appearing rival in the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt last month, but that narrow finish means he shouldn’t be far away again. The four-year-old could still be improving.
Pipeline for Chad Brown could be the best of the rest this weekend. He returned to action in an allowance optional claimer earlier this month, but you can easily overlook that run as he needed the outing. He was third in the G1 Forego last year, and a repeat finish is a likely outcome.

This is a clear battle between the top two in the betting, and cases can be made for both. However, Elite Status looks clear on ratings, and he is preferred to get the best of Gunite once again on Saturday.
