The other Grade 1 on the card this weekend comes in the form of the G1 United Nations Stakes. This race is run over 1 3/8 miles on the turf, and a competitive field of ten runners will go to post. In truth, this is an extremely weak Grade 1, and cases can be made for a number of the runners involved.

Red Knight isn’t getting any younger for Michael Maker, as the nine-year-old makes his 36th career start on Saturday. He was excellent when winning the G1 Man o’War in May, but he was back in fourth in the G1 Manhattan on his previous start. Still, he could remain the class in this field.

I’d be very interested in taking on Red Knight this weekend. Catnip looks a progressive contender for Michael Stidham, and he was excellent when landing the G3 Monmouth Stakes in June, reaching a speed rating of 106. He has a profile I like for this race, and his course experience could give him an advantage over his older rivals on Saturday. Kygo and Yamato are two that could run into the places at bigger prices.

The tenth race on the card at Monmouth is for the fillies and mares, with the G3 Molly Pitcher Stakes due off at 4:38 p.m. ET. This race covers 1 1/16 miles, and there is a strong favorite in the form of Search Results for Chad Brown. Last year’s winner of the race takes a step back in class this weekend after finishing third in the G1 La Troienne and second in the G1 Odgen Phipps on his two starts this season. She is clear on ratings and is increasingly challenging to overlook.

Distinctlypossible is an interesting rival from the Chad Brown yard after winning the Serena’s Song Stakes at Monmouth on her previous start, but she was back in eighth on her last attempt in graded company in the G2 Black-Eyed Susan last year.

I’d be more interested in Shotgun Hottie this weekend for Cherie DeVaux. Despite finishing behind the Brown runner in the Serena’s Song, she took a notable step in the right direction at Monmouth last month when landing the Lady’s Secret Stakes. However, every runner has to produce a career-best effort to get near Search Results.
