Race Preview

The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes has been staged annually at Ascot since 1955, with the race elevated to Group One status in 1987. It has been part of Champions Day since 2011, with the field competing for a share of the $1 million purse. Big Rock was a memorable winner of the race last year, giving the French a second win in five years.

Facteur Cheval was second on that day. However, the five-year-old is yet to reach the same heights this season since winning the G1 Dubai Turf. Sparks of hope were offered last time out when finishing third behind Notable Speech in the G1 Sussex Stakes.

But, Charyn has the reappearing rival covered based on his dominant win in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. In truth, the Roger Varian runner has been the dominant miler throughout the season, winning a French Group One before plodding on for second in the G1 Prix de Moulin last month. Ground conditions could be a slight concern.

Tamfana has quickly gone through the grades this season, and produced her best performance of the season last time out when beating Inspiral in the G1 Sun Chariot Stakes. Has form on heavy ground, but the ratings indicate that she could have too much to find despite getting weight from every other runner.

Prague has been the big talking horse for the Dylan Cunha yard throughout this week. The four-year-old was supplemented on Monday after impressively winning on soft ground over a mile when beating Poker Face in the G2 Joel Stakes. Intriguing contender.

Quddwah deserves respect this weekend despite being well beaten by Charyn in France in August. The lightly-raced Simon & Ed Crisford runner has an excellent record at Ascot this year, most recently winning over course and distance to land the G2 Summer Mile Stakes in July. Each-way claims.

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Picks

Charyn boasts rock solid credentials this week and is hard to overlooked. However, Henry Longfellow has little to find on official ratings, and gets weight off his rival this weekend.

The Aidan Oโ€™Brien runner may not have won this season, but he has been mixing it with the very best. A repeat of his second in the G1 St Jamesโ€™s Palace Stakes puts him right in the mix.
