Event Preview

A talented field will go to post for the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this weekend, with a total of a mile and four furlongs being covered by the 16-strong field. The complexity of the betting will likely hinge on the official going on Sunday, with current race conditions seeing it run on very soft ground.

Look De Vega was the ante-post favorite in the betting, but his credentials were knocked with a punishing defeat in the G2 Prix Niel over course and distance in September. Sosie was the victor on that day, and it could be hard to argue that the winner on that appearance is betting value in the current betting.

Los Angeles is the runner for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien. The three-year-old has the strongest form in the book, after winning the G1 Irish Derby and G2 Great Voltigeur this term. Didn’t relish going back in trip when fourth in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes, and a major player once again now back up to a mile and four.

Shin Emperor was second in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes, but the Japanese hopeful can have too much to find on ratings in this company over a mile and four. Al Riffa has been lightly campaigned with this target in mind, and the Joseph O’Brien stable has been in strong form throughout the season.

Sunway was second in the G1 Irish Derby, and looks a thorough stayer at a bigger price for each-way players. Aventure has form to find on Bluestocking, but is hard to completely rule out. Mqse De Sevigne should be respected for Andre Fabre on her first attempt over a mile and four.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Picks

Bluestocking has been my idea of the winner since her run in the G1 Prix Vermeille over course and distance last month.

She stayed strongly to the line to beat Aventure, and there still looks more to come from this filly for Ralph Beckett. Fillies have an excellent record in the Arc, while she is likely to get her perfect conditions for her shot at history on Sunday.
