After this road series against the Angels, they finish the 1st half with home series against the Mets and Pirates, giving them a chance to enter the break on a win streak. The Diamondbacks need to focus on this series first, with the Giants and Dodgers pushing for their top spot.
The Angels have now gone 3-6 in their last 9 games, continuing to bounce between win and loss streaks. They have slid dangerously close to the .500 mark that has haunted them for the past decade. Shohei Ohtani is having another historic season, but is expected to hit free agency during the upcoming offseason. With Mike Trout showing signs of regression in his 13th season, their window may be closing.
Prediction
The Diamondbacks enter this game with the better record, but will have to overcome the Angels home-field advantage. It may not be all that difficult, as Arizona holds a 24-14 record on the road, which is better than Los Angeles’ 22-18 record at home. On the mound for the Diamondbacks will be Tommy Henry (4.31 ERA). He should be able to get the road win against the solid Griffin Canning (3.99 ERA). I’d take Arizona.
