Preview
San Francisco may have had their 10-game win streak snapped last week, but they’re still playing well. They bounced back from losing the streak by taking 2 out of 3 against the division-leading Diamondbacks, now sitting just 2.5 games out of 1st place, and in a Wild Card spot. After a disappointing 2022 following their great 2021 season, the Giants are finally getting back on track. This will be another crucial series.
The Blue Jays have now won 4 of their last 5 games, although those wins came against the Marlins and Athletics. They’ve pulled to within a half of a game of the Yankees for 3rd place in a brutal AL East, also aiming to claim better positioning in the Wild Card race. Bo Bichette continues to be dominant for Toronto, hitting .318 on the season with 14 home runs. They need Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to start heating up as well.
Prediction
Both of these teams have fought their way into the Wild Card mix, with their hopes set on a postseason berth. With the All-Star Break approaching, the results of these next couple of weeks could determine the direction of their entire seasons. For this game, the Giants will have capable rookie Ryan Walker (1.89 ERA) on the mound, who should keep up with the consistent Kevin Gausman (3.10 ERA). I’ll take the Giants here.
