Preview
Miami entered the break in a much better position than many expected at the start of the season. They went just 5-5 in the final 10 games of the 1st half, but had gone 23-8 in the month prior. Their incredible month of June launched the Marlins into 2nd place in the NL East. They currently hold a Wild Card spot, and a 3-game safety cushion. Miami will look to their rejuvenated offense to keep it up in the 2nd half.
The Orioles are having a breakout year of their own, performing even better than many expected after finishing the end of last season strong. Baltimore has done more than just reach the bubble, climbing to nearly 20 games above .500, and pulling to within 2 games of the 1st-place Rays. Not only are they safely in a Wild Card spot, but the Orioles have a real shot to usurp the Rays for the division lead in the 2nd half.
Prediction
This is a great series between two teams that have been rebuilding for a long time, and are finally seeing some results. The Orioles have one of the youngest teams in the league, led by 25-year-old C Adley Rutschman, who participated in the 2023 Home Run Derby. Meanwhile, Miami has the .383 hitting 26-year-old Luis Arraez setting records. I wouldn’t count either team out, but I’d favor Baltimore here at home.
