Game Preview

Los Angeles picked up their 6th straight win and 2nd straight series sweep on Wednesday. After a slow, 13-13 start to the season, the Dodgers swept the Cardinals and Phillies during their 6-game home stand. They’ll now head back on the road, where they hold a 7-7 record, to face the Padres, who are rapidly pushing for the division’s top spot. After scoring 33 runs in 3 games, the Dodgers are ready for this series.

The Padres have also been playing very well lately. In their last 5 games, they’ve gone 4-1, outscoring the opposition 38-18 in that span, winning each game by an average of 4 runs. San Diego is benefiting from Juan Soto’s bat beginning to heat up. After batting .176 for the first 3 weeks of the season, Soto has gone 12 for his last 36 (.333) since April 22. With Soto heating up, the Padres could become a dangerous force.

Prediction

Both the Dodgers and Padres have been playing some great baseball lately, especially on offense. The biggest advantage for San Diego should be their home-field advantage, but they hold a record of just 9-9 at Petco Park. With ace Clayton Kershaw (1.89 ERA) on the mound for Los Angeles, the Padres face an uphill battle, especially with a struggling Joe Musgrave (10.80 ERA) starting. I’ll take the Dodgers to win it.
