Texas had their 5-game winning streak snapped by the Cardinals on Wednesday, but continues to play excellent baseball. They’ve gone 14-4 over their last 18 games, building a 4.5 game lead over the Astros in the AL West division. The Rangers hold the MLB’s best run differential and 2nd best record. In this series, they’ll face the Rays, who hold the MLB’s best record and 2nd best run differential. This series is massive.
The Rays have racked up 6 straight wins, starting June on the right note, after cooling off throughout the month of May. Tampa Bay’s pitching and defense have been exceptional in their recent winning stretch. In those past 6 games, they’ve allowed just 8 total runs, while scoring 27. This series against the Rangers will be their toughest test of the season. It gives them with a chance to prove just how good they are this year.
Prediction
Both of these teams have played sensational baseball this season, and should continue to be at their best in this series. Tampa Bay has a couple of advantages for this first game. They’ll be at home, with the capable Tyler Glasnow (3.72 ERA) on the mound. Texas won’t be an easy out with Andrew Heaney (4.03 ERA), but I like the Rays chances of emerging victorious here. I’ll take Tampa Bay in a high scoring game.
