  • The Rangers earned a 5-0 win over the Tigers on Monday.
  • Detroit’s loss kept them from returning to the .500 mark.
  • The Tigers are 374-335 in their all-time history against Texas.

The Rangers (34-19) and the Tigers (25-27) face off in an intriguing AL bout. Both teams have played great baseball lately, and are aiming to win their divisions. Texas has been one of the biggest surprises.

Preview

Texas continues to play excellent baseball, now sitting at 34-19 on the season, the MLB’s 2nd-best record. They’ve gone 20-8 over the past month, and 8-2 over their last 10 games. The Rangers have been stellar on both sides of the field. In those last 10 games, they scored 68 runs and allowed 27. They faced some good teams during that span, and now hold the MLB’s best run differential. This Rangers team is for real.

The Tigers were blanked by the Rangers on Friday, but had won 4 of their previous 5 games, climbing to within 1 game of the .500 mark. Detroit is only one game out of first place in a weak AL Central division, providing a real opportunity to make the playoffs. They need their offense, which had heated up prior to Monday’s shutout loss, to continue producing at a high level. CF Riley Greene (.297 BA) has led the way.

After being shutout in the first game of this series, I expect the Tigers to be more competitive in this game. They have the homefield advantage, and a capable Alex Faedo (1-2, 4.15 ERA) on the mound. On the other hand, the Rangers have been playing fantastic baseball, and are likely to overpower Detroit once again. With Martin Perez (6-1, 3.83 ERA) on the mound for them, I like Texas to come away with another win here.
