Game Preview

Boston managed to snap their 3-game losing streak, earning a 6-3 road win over the Tigers. After being swept by the Pirates at home, the Red Sox had major concerns raised about their ability to improve this season. While those concerns are by no means gone, a handful of wins against the Tigers is exactly what Boston needs before heading to Tampa Bay to take on the undefeated Rays in a key 4-game road series.

The Tigers managed to take 2 out of 3 games in Houston against the defending champion Astros earlier in the week, proving they could increase their level of competitiveness this season. At the same time, they’ve also now gone 0-4 against the dangerous AL East division, and will need to pick up some wins against Boston to avoid sliding any further. CF Matt Vierling has made a major impact for the Tigers, hitting .333.

Prediction

I’m tempted to pick the Tigers here for a couple of reasons. Home field advantage always helps, and their 2-1 record at Houston in the last series is far better than Boston’s 0-3 record against Pittsburgh. With that being said, the Red Sox have some advantages of their own. Both teams are starting young pitchers who had decent first starts, but Boston has the more experienced Tanner Houck. I see them winning it closely.
