Preview
Minnesota was swept by the red-hot Braves this week, falling back below the .500 mark. They hold a tie for 1st place with the Guardians, but can’t be too pleased with their inability to break free in a mediocre AL Central. Against Atlanta, it was the offense that went cold, scoring just 3 runs in the full 3-game series. Prior to that, they also had pitching troubles, allowing 7 or more runs in four games to Boston and Detroit.
The Orioles lost their series against the Reds, after winning the first game. They went 3-4 over the past week, but continue to win at a consistent enough rate to remain safely in 2nd place in the competitive AL East division. 6 of the remaining 10 games before the break for Baltimore will come against the Twins, with the other four being on the road against the Yankees. They’ll be looking to take advantage in this series.
Prediction
Minnesota and Baltimore have a pretty even pitching matchup in this game. The Twins will start Pablo Lopez (4.41 ERA), while the Orioles will have Dean Kremer (4.50 ERA) on the mound. With the pitching matchup balanced, the advantage definitely goes to the Orioles, who are at home and have been the much better team this season. I could honestly see Baltimore sweeping this series. I’d take them to win.
