  • The White Sox swept the Tigers over the weekend.
  • New York took 2 out of 3 against the Dodgers in LA.
  • The Yankees are 1091-856 in their all-time history against Chicago.

The White Sox (26-35) and the Yankees (36-25) match up in an AL clash. Both teams have been playing much better as of late. They are in similar positions in their divisions, despite having very different records.

Preview

Chicago gained some momentum in their series against the Tigers, picking up a series sweep and ending a losing skid. They now sit 2 games out of 2nd place in the AL Central, and 5.5 games out of first. A wide-open division is beneficial for the White Sox, but their schedule is about to get much tougher, with series against the Yankees, Dodgers, Rangers, Mariners, and Red Sox all happening in June. This month is huge.

The Yankees earned a road series win against the Dodgers, as they continue their strong play. They’ve gone 21-10 since their 15-15 start, riding some surprisingly good pitching to victory. Oddly, while New York’s rotation has done a solid job over the past month, their offense has struggled. They’ve been very inconsistent in scoring runs. Even so, they’ve still earned some big wins. New York has more work to do.

Prediction

Picking the White Sox in this game is the risky thing to do from most standpoints. The Yankees are a much better team, and playing in their home stadium. However, Chicago may earn a chance from New York’s starting pitcher, Clarke Schmidt (5.01 ERA). Schmidt’s struggles could open a door, but they’ll still be at a disadvantage. I’m not sure Lucas Giolito (4.08 ERA) can do enough to win it. I’ll take the Yankees at home.
