Fight Preview

Raquel Pennington is 15-8 overall, with six of her losses happening by decision. She lost one fight by submission back in 2012 against Cat Zingano. Her only loss by TKO happened in the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title fight against legendary Amanda Nunes in 2018.

Since the start of the new decade, “Rocky” has been much more impressive. After losing to Holly Holm by decision in early 2020, she went on to win the next five fights, climbing the divisional ladders and earning her second shot at the title.

Impressed? You know who isn’t? Mayra Bueno Silva. The Brazilian fighter has no respect for Pennington’s recent success, claiming that she plans to finish her early.

Sure, it’s trash talk, but “Sheetara” does have hard evidence to back everything. She’s got a fantastic portfolio, with 10 wins, one no contest. one draw, and two losses.

Both of her defeats happened by decision (vs. Maryna Moroz and Manon Fiorot), while her only draw was a majority draw in the fight with Montana De La Rosa. The fight that was declared no contest was originally a submission win over Holly Holm but was overturned after Bueno Silva tested positive for ritalinic acid.

When it comes to her wins, seven of them happened by submission. This includes one against one of the greatest grapplers in WMMA, Gillian Robertson. Bueno Silva also tends to do great against strikers, the evidence being that last February, we saw her beat former Muay Thai World Champion Lina Lansberg by submission.

Raquel Pennington vs. Mayra Bueno Silva Prediction

Our prediction for the Pennington vs. Bueno Silva fight at UFC 297 is that the Brazilian fighter will win. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that her prediction about finishing Pennington in the first round might come true.
