UFC 298: Geoff Neal vs. Ian Machado Garry Prediction, Odds, and Picks (Feb 17)

By · Updated 1 year ago
  • The Geoff Neal vs. Ian Machado Garry welterweight fight is booked for UFC 298.
  • Neal hates Garry’s guts for the mugshot T-shirt saga from last year.
  • The Irish fighter is one of the most hated fighters on the current UFC roster.

Our Geoff Neal vs. Ian Machado Garry prediction is that this fight is going to be a real bloodbath. Neal hates Garry’s guts for the mocking he received from the Irishman when they were originally meant to fight a few months ago.

Garry himself is full of anger as well, the reason being the abuse he’s been getting on social media for things in his private life. And “The Future” wants to unleash that anger on Neal.

Fight Preview

The Geoff Neal vs. Ian Machado Garry was originally meant to take place last summer, but Neal pulled out of the fight for health reasons.

In the build-up to the fight, Garry filmed himself wearing (and selling) t-shirts with Neal’s mugshot, which did not go well with the American. Nor did it go well with Neal’s colleagues and MMA fans.

Further, Garry became the center of a joke regarding his personal life, with fighters like Sean Strickland mocking him for taking his wife’s last name Machado.

Some believe that the abuse he was getting was the reason Garry pulled out of the scheduled fight with Vicente Luque in December, although he claims it was because he got pneumonia.

Knowing all this, it’s likely that both fighters will go all-in in their UFC 298 fight, but which one has the edge?

Geoff Neal vs. Ian Machado Garry Prediction

Geoff Neal has been fighting professionally since 2012 when Ian Machado Garry was only 15. The American has experience on his side, but fighting skills and power are Garry’s weapons. This guy is four inches taller than Neal and is more powerful than him.

He’s also a more prolific striker than Neal, landing almost 1.5 significant strikes more per minute than him. On top of everything, he’s a much better wrestler, which is no surprise as he’s got a black belt in judo.
