The main event of UFC 305 promises to be a striking showcase, with both fighters known for their kickboxing prowess. Du Plessis enters this fight with an impressive 21-2 record, including a perfect 7-0 in the UFC. Notably, five of these victories have come by a finish – 9 by KO/TKO and 10 by submission.
In his most recent bout, du Plessis captured the Middleweight title by defeating Sean Strickland in a hard-fought decision, despite Strickland landing more significant strikes. The reason that the South African won in the end was that he landed six takedowns while suffering none. Our prediction is that he’ll use pretty much the same tactic to win the UFC 305 main event.
However, Adesanya is very good when it comes to defending against takedowns, with his TD defense percentage being 77%. He uses his wrestling skills almost exclusively for defense, while his only offensive weapon is striking.
No surprise there because Adesanya is widely regarded as one of the best kickboxers in the UFC, if not the very best one. He’s got a 24-3 record with 16 knockouts, one of which happened against Alex Pereira.
When it comes to his losses, all three of them happened against elite opponents. After moving up to Light Heavyweight, he suffered a decision loss to Jan Blachowicz, and later, a TKO defeat at the hands of Alex Pereira for the Middleweight title.
However, Adesanya quickly avenged that loss with a knockout victory over Pereira. His most recent setback came against Strickland, a fight where Adesanya was expected to dominate but instead lost by decision after being literally beaten up by his opponent.
Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya Prediction
The UFC 305 odds make Israel Adesanya the favorite. We understand why that is the case – he’s an incredible striker who’s determined to get the UFC Middleweight belt back. However, we also think that Dricus du Plessis is a hell of a fighter who’s got plenty of weapons in his arsenal. This guy mustn’t be underestimated as he’s capable of grinding a win against pretty much any opponent in the division.
