Alex Pereira vs. Magomed Ankalaev Preview
Alex Pereira (12-2) took over the UFC Light Heavyweight division two years ago and is undefeated since. Since moving up from middleweight, he’s 5-0 with wins over some real elite 205-pound warriors – Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka (twice), Jamahal Hill, and Khalil Rountree.
He’s got wins over all fighters from the Top 4, except for Magomed Ankalaev (19-1-2). If he beats him on March 8, no one will have the right to even think that he’s not the best Light Heavyweight in the world today.
His kickboxing is world-class, and his power is undeniable. What about his ground game? Still a mystery. He’s likely drilling takedown defense, but we haven’t seen him truly tested there. That could change in the UFC 313 main event.
He’s taking on a Dagestani fighter, who, same as his compatriots, is a hell of a wrestler thanks to his combat sambo base. However, Ankalaev has promised not to use his wrestling skills against Pereira – instead, he plans to beat him at his own game.
Sure, he’s a hell of a striker, with KO/TKO wins over some big names in the UFC like Johnny Walker and Anthony Smith.
Alex Pereira vs. Magomed Ankalaev Prediction
Ankalaev says he won’t wrestle at UFC 313. He plans to stand and trade with Pereira. Maybe it’s mind games, maybe it’s ego – either way, going to a striking war with Poatan is super-dangerous.
If he plays Pereira’s game, he’s getting slept – that’s our prediction.
