Event Preview
A huge day of NASCAR action is set for this weekend, as the Cup Series Championship Race will be staged at Phoenix Raceway. This has been the closing race of the season since 1988, with the champion in NASCAR crowned. It is one of three Cup Series’ road course events on the schedule, with the field completing a total distance of 312 miles. There will be 312 laps completed this weekend, with the first stage seeing 75 completed, before 115 laps are contested in the second stage, and the remaining 122 in the final stage.
Kyle Larson landed a first victory in this race in 2021, before Joey Logano captured the victory for Team Penske in 2022. Larson remains among the key contenders this weekend, as the former champion sits third in the Drivers’ standings. He finished sixth last weekend to qualify for the final four, and his previous winning experience could prove crucial.

However, Ryan Blaney could be the form pick this weekend, as he landed victory in last weekend’s Xfinity 500 to remain top of the standings. That was his second victory in five races, and he has finished in the top two on three occasions over the same period. Christopher Bell separates Blaney and Larson in the standings, despite having landed just two victories this season. But, his consistency makes him a leading chance.
William Byron rounds off the top four drivers in the standings, as he has raised his consistency throughout the playoffs. He has finished outside the top ten on just two occasions, with the latest of those coming in the Xfinity 500 last time out. But, he is the selection that could upset the odds this weekend.
NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Prediction
Cases can be made for all four drivers involved in the championship race this weekend. However, we will be siding with Larson to continue his dominant streak and put his strong winning experience at the track under intense pressure to good use.
