Event Preview

The stakes increase this weekend, as the NASCAR Cup Series continues in Pennsylvania. This weekend’s race is the 21st of the campaign, and the race for a playoff spot in the Drivers’ Championship standings is heating up. The race at Pocono Raceway was first staged in 1974, and the field will complete a total of 400 miles.

That is made up of three stages. The first covers the first 30 laps, with 65 laps apiece being covered in the remaining two stages. Bill Elliott and Denny Hamlin are the two most successful drivers in the history of the race, with both picking up four wins apiece throughout their career. But, Kyle Busch could join the two drivers on four race wins this weekend.

The two most dominant active drivers hold very serious chances this weekend, with Hamlin looking for a vital win in his race for a playoff spot. He currently sits fourth in the standings, and will be chasing a second race win of the season this weekend. However, he has finished outside the top ten in two of his previous three appearances.

Kyle Busch is just a place further back in the current standings, but he has won three times throughout this season. He has been in excellent form over recent weeks, after finishing fifth in both the Quaker State 400 and Grant Park 220. Chase Elliott won this race 12 months ago, and he desperately craves a repeat result after dropping to 23rd in the overall standings.

Pocono 400 Predictions

This should be a thrilling edition of the race this weekend, with all drivers holding serious chances. However, the preference is for the red-hot Kyle Larson, who has finished fifth, fourth, and third over his last four starts.
