Event Preview

The seventh race of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule is set for this weekend, as a competitive race is set for Martinsville Speedway. The Cook Out 400 is one of the most historic races on the schedule, and it has been held annually since 1950.

Drivers will complete a total of 210.4 miles in the race this weekend, with a total of 400 laps making up the race distance. It is one of two races that are staged at Martinsville annually, with the other coming in the form of the Xfinity 500 during the playoffs.

Kyle Larson bounced back to form last weekend after claiming victory in the Straight Talk Wireless 400. That victory was his first of the season, besting his previous two third-place finishes. The win means that he now sits second in the Drivers’ Championship standings.

However, William Byron continues to set the pace in the current standings. The winner of this year’s Daytona 500 has finished in the top ten in three of the last four races. However, he could only finish 12th in the latest race on the schedule.

Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell also bring excellent recent form into this latest race on the schedule. The latter has already won a NASCAR-high of three races this season. However, his finish in 29th last weekend means that he currently sits fifth in the standings.

Cook Out 400 Picks

Another wide-open race is set for this weekend, and cases can be made for many drivers. However, Alex Bowman could be the interesting play. The driver has finished in the top ten in five of the six races this season, and confidence should be high after taking second in the Straight Talk Wireless 400 last weekend.
