By Β· Updated 1 year ago
  • Houston picked up a stellar, 73-65, victory over #6 Iowa State on Monday.
  • Baylor came up a bit short at BYU on Tuesday, losing by a score of 78-71.
  • These two teams last met on April 3, 2021, in a game that Baylor won 78-59.

Selection Sunday is less than a month away! Let’s look at the upcoming matchup between the Houston Cougars and the Baylor Bears. These two teams are fighting for top positioning in the competitive Big-12.

Preview

Houston remains projected to receive a 1-seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. They won a clash between the Big-12’s top two teams against Iowa State, taking over outright 1st place in the conference. The Cougars are currently in the clear top-3 in title odds, sitting right there with UConn and Purdue. They have a chance to add another Quad 1 win to their already impressive strength of schedule against Baylor.

Baylor came up short at BYU, but continues to play excellent basketball. They are 4-2 in the last 6 games, with 5 of those matchups coming against ranked teams. The two losses were by single digits on the road. They’ll have a chance to get back in the win column and continue their hot play at the same time in this game against Houston. Freshman G Ja’Kobe Walter continues to have an impressive impact for the Bears.

Prediction

The Big-12 has been the host of some of the best matchups this season, and remains on track to field more NCAA Tournament teams than any other conference. This is another premier game as the regular season winds down. Houston has been impressive and is tough to bet against, but they are also due for a loss. I see this game being pretty low-scoring, with Baylor ultimately coming away with a close home win.

  • Baylor 65, Houston 62 )
