Preview

BYU picked up a great win over Iowa State, winning 87-72. It was an important offensive breakout for the Cougars. They averaged just 65 ppg in the previous 3 games, after scoring over 92 ppg in the 4 matchups prior to that. They’ll aim to keep up that offensive momentum as they continue through their first season of Big-12 play. Senior G Spencer Johnson broke out for 28 points in their victory over Iowa State on Tuesday.

Texas Tech lost badly to Houston on Wednesday, ending their winning streak. The Red Raiders have not played any other games against currently ranked teams this season, but will take on ranked opponents in each of their next three games. This will be a key stretch for Texas Tech to prove if they deserve not only their #25 ranking, but also an NCAA Tournament bid. They’ll start by aiming to bounce back against BYU.

Prediction

This is another game that is tough to predict because of the home-court advantage. BYU is the more battle-tested and balanced team, and should have an advantage over Texas Tech. That being said, it won’t be a massive advantage, which will make it much more difficult to win on the road than it may have been at home. I see this game coming down to the very last seconds, with the Red Raiders getting the victory.
