  • Colorado State bounced back to defeat Utah State, 75-55, on Saturday.
  • New Mexico came up short at San Diego State, losing by a score of 81-70.
  • These two teams last met on January 2, in a game that Colorado State won 76-68.

Selection Sunday is less than a month away! Let’s look at the upcoming Mountain West clash between the Colorado State Rams and the New Mexico Lobos. The winner will take one step closer to the tournament.

Preview

Colorado State improved to 5-1 over their last six games following their win over Utah State. They are projected to receive a 6-seed in the tournament, but still have the potential to increase both their chances of making it and final seed. The Mountain West could send five or six teams to the tournament this year, proving how impressive this season has been for the conference. The Rams have been a big part of that.

New Mexico has been having an impressive season of their own. Unfortunately, they’ve lost three of their last five games, putting them closer to the bubble than they’d like. As of now, New Mexico still projects in as an 8-seed, but they need to get back to winning as soon as possible. After losing their last two home games, the Lobos really need to get a win in this game to keep from falling out of the projected field of 68.

Prediction

In a competitive Mountain West this season, it’s been very difficult for road teams to pull off the upset. The biggest exception to that rule as of late has been New Mexico, which makes this game less predictable. Even so, I don’t see the Lobos losing a third straight home game. I’ll take them by a very thin margin here.

NCAAB Picks:

  • New Mexico 77, Colorado State 74 )
