Preview

Michigan has gone just 5-6 in 2024, after going 11-3 to start the season. They sit right on the tournament bubble, currently projected as one of the last teams in the field of 68. Their blowout victory against 8-19 Rutgers may have helped get them back on track, but it won’t aid their chances of making the tournament. A win over a potential 1-seed on the road, on the other hand, would be huge for Michigan’s at-large hopes.

Iowa dropped to 22-3 following their loss to Nebraska. They remain on track to receive a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and may be more focused on Caitlin Clark’s imminent takeover of the all-time NCAA women’s basketball scoring record. The Hawkeyes have five more regular season games before the Big-10 tournament starts, giving them plenty of chances to regain their momentum while Clark sets the record.

Prediction

Michigan should enter this game playing with a high level of effort, knowing how huge a win would be for their tournament chances. Even so, they’ll face a brutal task on the road against a top-tier Iowa squad that will also be out for blood after blowing a lead late against Nebraska. I’ll take the Hawkeyes to win this one.
