Preview

Kansas is 3-2 over their last 5 games, falling from the #1 spot to #7 in that span. They remain as one of the NCAA’s best teams, but have some work to heat back up and claim a 1-seed on Selection Sunday. They are the beneficiaries of one of the most experienced rosters. Top players Kevin McCullar Jr. and Hunter Dickinson will both be 23 years old for the NCAA Tournament. They need those leaders to heat up here.

Iowa State currently projects as a 5-6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They may be safely within the field, but the Cyclones are undoubtedly still aiming to rise in the standings. They picked up ranked wins against Houston and TCU in the last couple weeks, and have another chance to earn one at home against Kansas. Iowa State has lost 8 of their last 9 games against Kansas, but has one of their most complete teams now.

Prediction

The Big-12 has been an absolute gauntlet this season, with any team capable of defeating another in any given matchup. Typically, the home team has had a massive advantage, especially in games where both teams are ranked. It’s risky to bet on an Iowa State team that is 1-8 against Kansas in the last 5 years, but the Jayhawks have struggled quite a bit lately. I like the Cyclones chances of holding them off at home.

NCAAB Picks:

  • Iowa State 77, Kansas 76 ()
