Preview
Marquette continued to roll last week, picking up their 7th win in a row. They had a couple of close calls on the road during that span, but still came away with the victories. The Golden Eagles don’t have many chances to pick up ranked wins in a subpar Big East conference, making this upcoming road trip to Butler and UConn crucial for their chances of earning a 1-seed. They are currently projected to receive a 2-seed.
Butler improved to 5-1 over their last 6 games, with the lone loss coming by single digits at UConn. Their excellent play as of late has vaulted the Bulldogs from out of the field to a projected 11-seed, just clear of the bubble. They have lots more work to do to secure an at-large spot, though, and can start by picking up the season sweep of Marquette here. G Pierre Brooks will continue to lead the way for Butler on offense.
Prediction
This is a very interesting game to project. Marquette enters this game as the #4 team in the country, giving them what should be a clear advantage against Butler. That being said, they already lost to the Bulldogs once, a month ago. That game was at home for Marquette, making the road rematch an even tougher task. I wouldn’t be shocked if they pull off the season road split, but I’m leaning towards Butler.
