  • Nebraska fell to 4-5 over their last 9 games, after coming up just short at Illinois.
  • Northwestern continued to stumble, losing 75-66 against Minnesota on Saturday.
  • These two teams last faced off on January 20, in a game that Nebraska won 75-69.

The college basketball season is in full swing! Let’s preview this week’s Nebraska vs Northwestern game. These two teams are right on the NCAA Tournament bubble, raising the stakes massively for this matchup.

Preview

Nebraska has cooled off quite a bit after starting the season 12-2. They sit even at 6-6 in conference play, with crucial wins over Purdue and Wisconsin supporting their rรฉsumรฉ. Despite those signature wins, the Cornhuskers are currently projected as one of the very last teams in the NCAA Tournament field, giving them no margin for error. A road upset here against Northwestern would give them another key victory.

Northwestern is in a similar position to Nebraska, having dropped to 6-5 in conference play last week. They have a bit more of a cushion in the projected NCAA Tournament field, but not by much. The Wildcats are only a couple of losses away from falling to the wrong side of the bubble. They rely on Boo Buie to lead the way in what may very well become a must-win game against a fellow bubble team in the Cornhuskers.

Prediction

This is a crucially important matchup for both of these teams as they hang on the bubble. They’re aiming to put their program’s struggles behind them and make some noise in this year’s tournament. Nebraska won the first matchup at home a couple weeks ago, and I like Northwestern to even this series out here.
