Preview
North Carolina returned to their winning ways last week, after going 0-2 against UConn and Kentucky in the week prior. The Tar Heels have the talent and experience to be a top team this season, but are still getting into rhythm. They lost Caleb Love to the transfer portal, but retained RJ Davis and Armando Bacot. North Carolina will be aiming to pick up another key victory in what should be a tough game at Clemson.
Clemson has cooled off a bit since their 9-0 start, going 2-2 over the past couple of weeks. The wins in that span came against Queens and Radford, so the Tigers would definitely benefit from earning a quality win over the Tar Heels in this game. After going just 1-19 against North Carolina from 2004 to 2017, the Tigers have won 3 of their last 6 matchups. They’ll lean on Senior C PJ Hall to keep leading the way here.
Prediction
This is a key matchup between the two highest ranked ACC teams. The winner will settle in as the front-runner to win the conference for the time being. In terms of the metrics, the Tar Heels have a large advantage here. That being said, Clemson is experienced and well-coached, and will not be easy to beat on the road. I see this game coming down to the wire, with North Carolina ultimately pulling away to win.
NCAAB Picks:
- North Carolina 75, Clemson 71 ()
