Preview
Syracuse climbed back into the top-25 after another very strong week. They picked up a key ranked win against Florida State, improving to 6-1 in ACC play and 16-2 overall. They currently hold a tie for first place in the ACC, but face a tough matchup here at Notre Dame. They managed to defeat the Fighting Irish a month ago, but will be on the road this time around. They’ll rely on G Dyaisha Fair to score heavily again.
Notre Dame improved to 5-2 in ACC play last week. The two losses came to the conference’s top teams in UNC and Syracuse. They’ll have a chance to redeem one of those losses in this game against the Orange. The Fighting Irish have had stellar play from Freshman phenom Hannah Hidalgo, who is averaging 24 ppg, 6.5 rpg, and 5.5 apg. She’ll be key to Notre Dame’s ability to even out the season series against Syracuse.
Prediction
When these two teams last faced off on New Year’s Eve, they played a very close and competitive game. Hidalgo and Fair combined for 59 points, leading their respective squads in scoring. I expect a similar result this time, with the key players fighting back and forth in a close game. Ultimately, I see the home-court advantage being enough to give the Fighting Irish the edge to win this one and tie the season series.
