Preview
Ole Miss has gone 2-2 over the past two weeks, cooling down considerably after starting the season out 13-0. They’ll face another difficult game here, hoping to avoid their third straight loss on the road. The Rebels had success early in the season, partially due to a weaker schedule, but also as a result of their much-improved offense. They’re aiming to end a 5-year NCAA Tournament drought after their hot start.
Auburn is off to an excellent start this season. They’ve climbed into the top spot in the SEC, after starting out 15-2. They’re aiming to lock up their third straight NCAA Tournament berth, and improve on last year’s 21-13 record. F Johni Broome has been one of the NCAA’s most complete players. He is averaging roughly 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. Broome will lead the way against the Rebels.
Prediction
This should be another solid matchup between two ranked SEC opponents. Despite their identical 15-2 records, these teams are actually quite different. In ranking metrics such as KenPom and NET, Auburn ranks #4 and #7, while Ole Miss ranks #71 and #63. That means the Tigers project as a 2-seed, while the Rebels could miss the field entirely. With home-court advantage also in their favor, I’m taking Auburn here.
