Ole Miss improved to 13-0 after defeating Bryant on Sunday. Along with Houston and James Madison, the Rebels are one of the final undefeated teams in all of college basketball. They currently rank the lowest of the three, due to a less-than-challenging schedule. That can all change this week, with a chance to take down #5 Tennessee and make a massive jump in the rankings. They’ll rely on their age and experience.
Tennessee rose back into the top-5 this week, despite already having three losses. The Volunteers have benefited from all of those losses coming against top-10 teams. That being said, they also hold only one ranked win, against Illinois. This game against Ole Miss provides an opportunity for Tennessee to further prove they deserve their top-5 ranking. Their defense ranks among the best in the NCAA, and will be key.
Prediction
This game features an undefeated team getting a test against a team ranked much higher than them. Ole Miss opens as the underdogs, despite their 3-game advantage over Tennessee. While their schedule does not inspire a ton of confidence, Ole Miss has still won every game they’ve played. The Volunteers are more battle-tested, though, which may give them the advantage here. I see them winning narrowly in the end.
