Preview
Oregon managed to keep up their hot play from winning the Pac-12 tournament in their first-round matchup against South Carolina, dominating the Gamecocks. Jermaine Couisnard, facing his former team, delivered a historic performance for the Ducks, dropping 40 points. His stunning game set both a personal and NCAA Tournament record for Oregon. N’Faly Dante was also a key contributer, adding 23 points and 6 rebounds in the Ducks’ upset of the Gamecocks.
Creighton was propelled by Ryan Kalkbrenner’s 23 points and Trey Alexander’s 19 points in their victory over Akron. The Bluejays looked the part of a team with multiple seasons of NCAA Tournament experience under their belt. Their victory was never really in question, especially in the 2nd half. Creighton’s 20-8 run to open the second half and its excellent sharp shooting, making 10 of 17 three-pointers, contributed to their dominant win over Akron.
Prediction
It will be a difficult task for Jermaine Couisnard to repeat his heroic performance for Oregon, especially if there is a game plan to contain him. Creighton has a big size and experience advantage with Ryan Kalkbrenner and Baylor Scheierman likely to exert their presence on the Ducks. With all of that considered, we believe the Bluejays will be able to win this matchup, but with the Ducks keeping it close enough to cover the 5.5-point spread.
NCAAB Picks:
