Preview
Tennessee surged past #22 Ole Miss last week, handing the Rebels their very first loss of the season. The Volunteers have now won seven games in a row since their 3-game losing streak that came against three top-10 teams. They’ll look to keep up their momentum as they continue SEC play. Tennessee has one of the nation’s best defenses. They’ve held their opponents to 61.5 ppg during their 7-game winning streak.
Mississippi State had their 5-game winning streak snapped by South Carolina in a tough road loss. They have a solid record at 11-3, but have yet to earn any signature victories outside of their solid win against Northwestern. They’ll have an opportunity to add a huge win to their rรฉsumรฉ against Tennessee in this game. The Bulldogs will need leading scorer Josh Hubbard to bounce back to have a chance of winning.
Prediction
Home-court advantage makes a considerable difference in college basketball, which creates the need to always be wary when taking the road team. That being said, Tennessee should have a notable advantage in this game. They are a battle-tested top-10 squad and will be facing an inconsistent Bulldogs team. I don’t expect a total blowout, but the Volunteers should be able to win here by double digits on the road.
