Texas continues to hang right on the NCAA Tournament bubble, currently projected to receive a 10-seed. Their tough schedule is aiding their chances, but a 5-6 conference record may not be enough to earn them the nod. With signature wins over Oklahoma and Baylor already, the Longhorns have a key chance to pick up another crucial rรฉsumรฉ-building win against Houston. They’ll need G Max Abmas to lead the way.
Houston continues to surge, improving to 7-1 over their last eight games. They handled business against some of the conference’s weaker teams last week in Oklahoma State and Cincinnati. They follow that with this game against Texas and two ranked matchups against Iowa State and Baylor. The Cougars are competing to hold onto their projected 1-seed, as well as to win the conference in their first season in it.
Prediction
The Big-12 has been a dominant conference this season, making it even more impressive that Houston holds a share of 1st place in their first season since joining it. They’ve still got some big games to worry about before feeling confident in their top spot, but they’ve handled much of their competition so far. If this game was at Texas it may be different, but I see the Cougars winning easily at home in this matchup.
