Preview
Boise State got a massive win over Air Force in their final regular season game, rising into a 3-way tie for 1st in the Mountain West. The tiebreaker, based on computer rankings, rewarded the Broncos with a spot as the away team in the Mountain West title game. They’ll head to Las Vegas to take on a UNLV team that has never beaten them. It’ll be a tough task to overcome, with the Rebels having one of their best seasons.
UNLV was unable to defeat San Jose State last week, finishing in a 3-way tie for the Mountain West lead. Fortunately, their strength of record remained at the top, allowing the Rebels to make the title game over the team that had just beaten them. UNLV is having their best season since joining the Mountain West. The last time they reached 9 wins was back in 1984, when they still played in the now non-existent PCAA.
Prediction
This should be another exciting championship game. Not only did these teams not play each other this season, but they haven’t faced off in over 4 years. Now, they take each other on with the greatest stakes in the conference. UNLV is 0-6 all-time against Boise State, but also has rarely had a team playing at this level. With all the experience the Broncos have, they may very well take it, but I see UNLV getting the win.
