Preview

Boise State had another solid season, finishing above .500 for the 26th straight year. They returned to a bowl game for the first time since 2019, after 2020 and 2021 were complicated by COVID-19. Excluding those two years, the Broncos have gone bowling in 18 of 19 seasons dating back to 2002. With the Pac-12 possibly seeking new additions from the Mountain West, Boise State will aim to prove their ability in 2023.

Washington took a massive step forward last season, improving on a 4-8 result from 2021 by a huge margin. Their 11-2 season took shape following the development of QB Michael Penix Jr., who has become one of the best quarterbacks in college football. With Penix Jr. and much of the offense returning, the Huskies are expected to have a good shot at winning the Pac-12 in their final year before joining the B1G.

Prediction

Boise State competes pretty well with their Pac-12 opponents on a yearly basis, and should be good enough to avoid being blown out in this game. Whether they have a realistic shot at winning is a different story. As capable as the Broncos are, they’re aren’t facing a middling Pac-12 team here. Washington will likely be very good this season. I think it’ll land very close to the spread, but I give the nod to the Huskies.
