Preview
Clemson had another solid season last year, going 11-3. They’ve now posted 12 consecutive seasons with 10 or more wins. Unfortunately, the Tigers have also missed the CFP for 3 straight years, after making it in 4 out of 5 seasons from 2015-2019. Clemson will be aiming to take that leap back into the top four teams this year, but will face tough competition in the ACC. They should be a CFP lock once it expands in 2024.
Duke bounced back in their first year under new head coach Mike Elko. After three straight under .500 seasons, the Blue Devils went 9-4 in 2022. They made their first bowl game since 2018, and went on to dominate UCF in it, winning 30-13. Duke will face a tough ACC slate this season. After hosting #9 Clemson in the opener, they host #13 Notre Dame at the end of September, and then visit #8 FSU and #21 UNC.
Prediction
Duke’s success last season should help to avoid a blowout in this game, especially at home. I see them keeping it a lot closer than their previous matchup in 2018. That being said, Clemson is still a top-10 team this season, and the Blue Devils are projected to finishing with 7 or 8 wins. It’ll be a tough task to avoid falling behind. Ultimately, I see the Tigers pulling away and winning this game by a couple of touchdowns.
