Preview

Florida had another mediocre season last year, posting their 2nd straight 6-7 result. Since winning two national titles under Urban Meyer, the Gators have gone 93-59 (.612) with four different head coaches. In their 2nd year under Billy Napier, Florida brought in a ton of fresh talent, earning them some votes in the preseason AP Poll. They have a long way to go to rebound from their 30-3 defeat in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Utah is hoping to exit on the Pac-12 on a high, after surging to a 43-18 (.705) record over the past five seasons. After finally climbing to the top of the conference, the Utes will head to the Big-12 in 2024. This season, they’ll be aiming for their 3rd straight Pac-12 championship. At the same time, they’ve also lost two straight Rose Bowls, and all four bowls during that 5-year stretch. They’ll try to snap that in 2023-24.

Prediction

When these two teams met last season, they were in exactly the same position. Utah was the favorite, after having gone 10-4, winning the Pac-12 but losing the Rose Bowl. Florida was the underdog, after going 6-7 in the season prior. After repeating those exact same results last year, they’ll once again meet in the opener this season. I’m tempted to pick the same result as last year, but I think Utah can pull it off.
